My system is already 1 year old, and still running like a champ :)
No matter the rig you wanna make, even if you don't plan on overclocking, keep in mind 1 thing: it's all about the cooling!!!
My gaming rig:
Case: Coolermaster HAF 912
NZXT 4 channel fan controller with heat probes
2x 200mm bitfenix fans (yeah, you heard: 200mm = 20cm) 1 top = exhaust, 1 front: intake
2x 180mm 1 side-pannel intake, 1 rear exhaust
CPU cooler: coolermaster V6GT with 2x 180mm fans = CPU temp under 45 full load
Mobo: ASUS M5A97
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM : black edition = OC :) (my rig aint brand new, it's already 1 year old and still kicking serious butt)
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 660 OC DirectCU 1020MHZ 2GB 6.0GHZ GDDR5 (I just love ASUS when it comes to overclocking: they give you all the bios and software you need and their cooling system is amazing)
Ram: 8gb kingston hyper-x 1866
Power supply: Cooler Master 500W
Primary hard drive: 128gb OCZ vertex 3 SSD (it's a speed demon)
3 other older hard drives for media, 500gb, 1tb, 2tb
Keyboard: razer blackwidow ultimate (mechanical, it's just amazing)
Mouse: razer naga epic (yeah, it's for mmo, but for blackops 2 it's amazing to setup your 12 thumb buttons)
2x 24inch LED samsung: BX2450 2ms response time
