Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

    Quick Overview :

    Development :
Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 is a FPS action game co-developped by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision.
MW3 is expected to hit the shelves on November 8th, 2011 for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii/DS.
Treyarch is handling the development of the Wii version of MW3. n-Space is handling the NDS version.
Beachhead is working on the "Elite" service.
    Technical Side :
MW3 runs on an improved version of the IW 4.0 engine (used in MW2), referred to as the "MW3 engine" in respect to Sledgehammer Games. It is acclaimed for it's quick-responsive controls and silky smooth gameplay.
MW3's framerate is locked at 60 FPS and will never run below that.
Infinity Ward has promised that just like with their past titles, the game will run equally on all platforms. (Same resolution/framerate)
Some of the engine improvements include streaming tech for greater level scales and improved audio for more situational awareness.
    Gameplay :

Modern Warfare 3 has 3 components : A Campaign mode featuring a "very cinematic experience with insane action moments", a very depth Multiplayer mode, and a Co-Op mode featuring mission-based "Spec Ops" as well as a horde-based mode named "Survival".
Free PC Dedicated Servers will be featured from Day 1.
Xbox 360 gets DLC's 1 month (or so) before the other platforms.
Comparison to past CoD games :

Recoil patterns significantly increased from MW2.
    Same frame rate as MW2.
Not returning from Black Ops : Dive-To-Prone, Combat Training, Second Chance, Multiplayer Currency, Stacking Killstreaks, Firecapped Pistols.
Not returning from MW2 : One Man Army, Stopping Power, Danger Close, Commando, Last Stand, Tactical Nuke
A lot of fan favorites (weapons...) are coming back, from CoD4 and MW2 (i.e. MP5, G36C, Model 1887...)
The slide is pulled when reloading an emptied pistol.
    Game Components :

    Campaign

    MW3 is a direct sequel to MW2
    MW3 takes place during a hypothetical WW3
MW3 will focus more on the storytelling aspect of the game, something MW2 lacked.
The Campaign cannot be played cooperatively as it "ruins the cinematic experience" according to Infinity Ward.
Known factions are Delta Force (American), SAS (British) and GIGN (French), Spetsnaz (Russian) and apparently OpFor (middle-eastern).
Currently 3 missions are known : Black Tuesday, Hunter Killer and Mind the Gap.
Confirmed locations are USA (Manhattan, Washington D.C.), UK (London, and Lambeth rumored), France (Paris), Germany (Hamburg and Berlin), Russia (Moscow rumored), India (Himalayas, and Dharmasala rumored), Somalia (Mogadishu) as well as other parts of Africa (Sierra Leone rumored). Other rumored locations are Czech Republic (Prague), United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Greece (Meteora) and the Alps (cross-continental European mountains).
Confirmed characters are Frost (playable), Sandman, Eddie Decker, Grunt, Truck, Grinch, Overlord, Wallcroft, Marcus Burns (playable) and Vladimir Makarov.

    Spec Ops 2.0

Spec Ops is a mode included in MW3 that features "cool moments that didn't fit in the campaign". Most of the settings are campaign-based however. They are usually simple missions with a clear objective to do that is indicated from the start. Bear in mind however that simple does not mean easy.
New features are set to appear in Spec Ops such as Online Matchmaking, Progressive Ranking and Leaderboards.
You now have a unique progressive ranking system in Spec Ops that is completely separate from your Multiplayer rank. That rank will allow you to unlock new missions and difficulties.
Spec Ops encourages co-op play, as missions played with 2 players are easier than when played Solo (difficulty does not increase).
Every mission can be played solo or cooperatively.
You can play Spec Ops solo, split-screen, with a friend online or with a stranger online.
Known Missions : "Invisible Threat". A mission that can be played solo or with a player (just like every mission) that takes place in Berlin, Germany. You take control of a Juggernaut, and if you chose to play with a friend, your friend takes the role of a Sniper (with a Barrett .50cal according to people who played the game at Gamescom) who provides supportive fire from a ledge afar. The Juggernaut has to defuse 9 IED's around the map, and the Sniper uses Predator Drones and such to keep enemies off the Juggernaut.
    Survival Mode

Survival Mode is a part of Spec Ops, but the concept is completely different than the mission-based Spec Ops.
It is playable on all Multiplayer Maps, so you can also use it as training for learning the maps before jumping online.
It is a brand new wave-based mode where a 1-2 player(s) must fight off increasingly difficult waves of enemies until they are overcame by them.
As the rounds progress the enemies become smarter, aim better and get better weapons. There are also different types of enemies, see below.
Confirmed enemy types : Soldiers, Attack Dogs, Chemical Soldiers, Kamikaze Soldiers, Kamikaze Dogs, Juggernauts (and different variants who all have their weakness i.e. with riot shields, weak to explosives, weak to headshots), and Air Support (Attack Choppers, Pavelows...)
You earn money as you kill enemies, get assists, complete challenges and more. You can use that money to buy features from any of the three armories. (see below)
When both players die, it's game over. When one player is downed, however, it is possible to revive him using a syringe.
You also have an armor. (Represented by a percentage at the bottom of the screen. When it runs out, it does not replenish. You have to buy another one from the Equipment armory)
You start off with a pistol (the Five-seveN), 2 flashbangs and 2 frag grenades. It is possible to pick up enemy weapons.
In each map there are 3 armories. A weapon armory (represented by the Pistol icon), an Equipment armory (represented by the Frag icon) and an Air Support armory (represented by the Harrier icon)
In the weapon armory, you can buy refill your ammo, buy attachments, buy new weapons and upgrade them. Weapons have different pricings but also behave in different manners, as certain weapons in Spec Ops are purposely made overpowered, unlike in Multiplayer.
In the equipment armory, you can refill your frags, flashbangs, buy claymores, C4, syringes and probably armor. You can also buy turrets, automatic grenade launchers and more.
In the Air Support armory, this is essentially where you call for help. You can call in a Delta Squad of AI-controlled computers to drop from a helicopter and help you fight. You can also call in a Riot Shield squad to support you. It is also possible to buy Air Support such as Predator Missiles and AC-130's.

Call of Duty Elite Delayed on, Yes, PC

Just another example of why i hate this developer... oh hey the game is done for xbox and ps3 but not for PC, lets go ahead and release it anyways the PC gamers wont care... I'm so glad i didn't spend money on this remake of MW2 or shit they could even call it Black Ops2!! (This is my opinion, you are entitled to your own.)

My First-Impressions Review (better one to come later)

First off, if you don't own or haven't played this game, please don't pass judgment on it (at least not without admitting you don't actually have the game). I don't care if you 'fucking hate' Activision or IW, in fact that's probably better reason you said nothing at all. No offense to any of you who have already done so, but you are not qualified to talk about it and you are ruining it for people who may actually enjoy it.

That said, if you do own it, and have played it extensively, please, please, PLEASE, say something. Information here is key and we need to outweigh the hearsay with solid evidence.

                The Good (MP):
Good pacing in MP, as always. Battles are frenetic and intense. Create-A-Class is more of a time sink than ever, allowing an unprecedented amount of game play customization, including different strike package (read killstreak) setups for each class, and the new weapon specialization option. Perk balancing is better than ever, partly because of the strike package being a possible source of temporary perks (in addition to your standard ones) and partly because the most beneficial perks are now more evenly distributed. I would find it difficult to find a single perk which I would use for all my classes (that's a good thing, more diverse game play). Playlists seem to get you into a lobby faster, but that could be simply the volume of people playing right now (at least they make it look like it's doing something in the meantime). Finally, unlike in previous games, most of the weapons play very well. LMG's are now actually quite different from other guns (and they can use the rapid fire attachment). The gun sounds are completely exaggerated, but the performance is great and that's what is most important. In short, the multiplayer isn't as 'MW2 Clone' as people tend to assume. Private matches are finally worth playing. First, everything is unlocked in them (even all camos), so we can have scrims without being crippled by every prestige. It's also important to note that dedicated servers have this same facet, which may prove either positive or negative, depending on your perspective. Second, game demos can be automatically recorded, just like in Black Ops, and they don't tend to affect game play (at least not obviously). Third, you can now design and SAVE custom game modes (think Halo), so no more taking an hour to tweak game options every time we want to play some new custom game. Lastly, you may now eliminate weapons, attachments, and specific strike packages from your game modes, so if we want no tubes, you can force no tubes. While some of the maps are frustrating for CoD vets, I have to say that Bakaara, Mission, Underground, Resistance, Downturn, and Seatown are fairly fun maps, some of them reminiscent of CoD 4 which is a very good thing.

                The Bad (SP):
Same old graphics engine. Campaign has an unforgivably stereotypical and uninteresting plot. The 'shockers' are about as unexpected as the sunrise. Makarov is painted as an omnipotent boogy-man, with somehow better intel than all of the worlds militaries combined. Yet, in the final mission he dies like a bitch to a bloody button pressing sequence. Every mission is just like the other, completely indistinct. Even the attempts to break the monotony are brief and again, nothing new. Finally, throughout every mission, your team will give you patently bad tactical advice like "Keep moving forward!" When there are ten guys shooting you in the face, and "Move with the tanks for cover!" which only leaves you completely exposed AND unable to see your targets until they stick a barrel in your face. Finally, your teammates are about as retarded as possible, being completely inept at killing anything and not even providing a decent distraction as any enemy that can see you will only shoot at you.

                (MP)
You aren't allowed to play Hardcore until rank 19. Really IW? This pointless 'you must be this tall to ride' nonsense has got to stop. It serves literally no purpose except to frustrate MW vets who don't need a fucking three-hour refresher course. Thankfully, this only applies to your non-prestige ranks. Kill Confirmed (new Game-type) doesn't really change TDM enough to warrant a separate playlist. All this means is that once players start getting scarce, that playlist is going to be completely obsolete. Several of the maps feel cluttered and sometimes have confusing paths with little or no cover. The lack of cover is what I am guessing the developers thought would reduce camping, but all it does is give campers a more clear view of their quarry. Specific maps I found to follow this system are Outpost, Village, Interchange, Carbon and Arkaden (the mall) and I do not like them, for the record. Also, the XM25 grenade launcher is far too powerful in hardcore modes. Literally it's just two clicks and the user can explode grenades right next to your face from halfway across the map. A least with the under barrel systems, you still need to carefully place grenades to hit targets that are above you. This issue is probably most pronounced in Domination.

                The Soon-to-Come:
I haven't yet tried Spec Ops and Survival.

                Bottom Line:
The MP game play is still as solid as MW ever was. The wealth of new features is certainly worth the price, though they are really going to have to add better maps before it will exceed MW2's standard.

##Despite the title, this is actually my full review, there won't be another one, I'll just update this one when necessary.

I found this comment from a Kotaku.com artical to be spot on...

I may be a passionate gamer and seeing an unbalanced game does make me upset, but I am also a passionate developer as well, and seeing people crank out games year after year with LITTLE effort in quality assurance or improvement personally disgusts me. Where is the passion in making the game? Where is the progression? Where is the self respect? Other than the story, everything in MW3 could have patched into MW2. EVERYTHING. Even a 30 dollar DLC, but to sell 9+ million copies (equaling $500+ million made in sales) and not spending the time, money or effort to make the BEST game possible just infuriates me.

The biggest budget game was GTA4 with what, 60 million? It used an engine created from scratch, several dozen voice actors, HOURS upon HOURS of music and original radio content, modeling New York City as best as you can without having it be NYC. It had animations from scratch, models from scratch, etc etc. A great open world environment.

What does MW3 do that MW1 didn't do?
                          Same engine? Check.
                          Same textures? Check.
                          Same animations? Check.
                          Same sounds? Check.
Same models (character and environment)? Check.
                          Same balancing issues? Check.

Sure this next part might be my opinion, but I think it's completely unacceptable. They don't give a fuck about the consumer. They give you COD Elite, a feature set that Bungie and Dice give for FREE for their users Activision charges for. They charge 15 dollars for a "throwback" map slightly modified with zombies added.

They milk the consumer. This is why I get mad. This is why I hate COD. It's bad for the rest of the industry as they have no chance to show innovation as COD eats up the market with their rehashed (yes I just used that word) product year after year.

Oh, and when COD finally does die, hundreds of hundreds of people will get thrown out of their jobs, just like every other franchise Activision has owned. Fuck them.

EDIT: Also the evidence of several COD4 maps for MW3 is just a hilarious addition and support to my claims.
